The city of Bellaire (population 16,000) is located within the Houston metropolitan area and completely surrounded by the cities of Houston and West University place. Bellaire properties include single family homes and multi-family homes to buy as well as rental properties and a few office buildings along the 610 Loop within the city limit. As of 2000, Bellaire Houston West is the 27th wealthiest location in Texas per capita income. The median house price in central Bellaire for 2005 was $519,494.
Bellaire has an excellent public school system at all grade levels. Bellaire High School is a Houston Independent School District (HISD) magnet school for foreign languages and part of the International Baccalaureate Program. In addition, it consistently produces the highest number of National Merit Finalists of any high school in the district. Several private schools are also conveniently accessible to residents including Bellaire Christian Academy, Saint Agnes Academy, and Strake Jesuit College Preparatory.
